Living in Northern California and with my recent purchase of the Volvo XC40 R-design, I started to look into possible tire options. The questions I had were if I should invest in SUV all-season tires or SUV all-weather tires. With the varying weather of Northern California, where seasonal changes are more present than in Southern California, I wanted to make sure that the tires I choose are able to remain responsive and safe in all road and weather conditions. Also, the SUV that I bought is quite sporty, and I didn’t want to invest in tires that would limit my driving experience. First things first. I would like to find out if I should look into all-season tires or all-weather tires and to understand what’s the difference between these two.
After starting to
read about the differences between all-weather and all-season tires, it became
clear to me that only the all-weather tire would work for me. This is because
even though it sounds like the two tires are the same, only the all-weather
tires actually can hold up in winter road conditions. All weather tires are
really combinations of the best properties of a winter tire and an all-season
tire, whereas an all-season tire is good only for 3 seasons. Even though the
name all-seasons implies to 4 seasons, the tire is not safe on winter
conditions. Having realized this, I still needed to choose which all-weather
tire to get.
The Nokian WR G3 SUV
tire is an all-weather tire especially made for SUVs. It can maintain driving
comfort while ensuring responsiveness as well as excellent grip even on snow.
With its snow claws on the tread’s diagonal and longitudinal grooves, snow and
ice will not be a problem. This tire also assures that it performs equally well
on dry surfaces with its “Groove Lifts”, which maintain stability and even
prevents wedging of small rocks. Even in wet and slushy conditions the tire
continues to perform well, minimizing the risk of both slush planing and aqua planning,
when there are heavy summer rains and when snow starts to melt in the spring.
If I lived in Southern California or any part of the country, which do not have winter road conditions, SUV all season tires like the Nokian Rotiiva HT might have worked for me. Nokian Rotiiva HT with its advanced highway tread would have provided a quiet and safe ride with the possibility to handle some light off-road situations.
I just finished up my winter season at the ski resort in Tahoe where I had put my Nokian Nordman 7 studded tires in to good use. After accepting a job at San Francisco fisherman’s wharf, I realized that I needed to find some new tires for my car. As great as my studded winter tires were up here in Tahoe for the winter season, they obviously won’t be suitable for San Francisco.
was unavoidable to buy winter tires here in Tahoe as the winter conditions
required good quality winter tires. However, now that I am heading to San
Francisco, I am looking into all season tires. All-season and summer
tires are suitable for spring, summer, and
fall but not for winter. Luckily my colleague Joe bought my studded winter
tires from me and I bought some Nokian eNTYRE 2.0 all-season tires.
great thing about the Nokian eNTYRE 2.0 tire is that it’s a safe and economical
tire that provides a comfortable driving experience. It also has a silent
sidewall Technology that cuts out noise and vibration and makes my journeys
even more enjoyable.
I bought my winter tires, I was aware I would only be using them during the
winter season and for that season they were excellent. The grip was excellent,
and I had no problems driving up my sloped drive way. Using these tires in any other than winter
conditions, however, is not recommended and I’m sure in some states it’s not
even legal. I don’t regret having invested in a good set of winter tires as I
know that the all-season tires I put on now, would not have been able to handle
the harsh winter conditions in Tahoe.
If I end up staying in San Francisco I will be able to
continue to use my new Nokian eNTYRE 2.0 tires until the end of their life as
the weather in San Francisco is well suited for all-season tires.
Living in Phoenix, Arizona with temperatures well above 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer, investing in a good set of summer tires was pretty much mandatory. Keeping in mind that there really is only summer and December in Arizona, and in Phoenix pretty much just summer, this would not be a frivolous investment. I recently bought BMW 3 series and wanted to get the most out of the driving experience with some high quality summer tires. Maybe if I lived in Flagstaff, I would have looked into all season tires.
This summer I
want to make sure that I have the best summer tires to hit the road and enjoy a
comfortable and safe driving experience. From what I have read, premium summer
tires can provide stable handling and logical steering, even in high speeds,
providing excellent grip and enjoyable driving feel. That is exactly what I
wanted when driving with my brand new BMW.
to invest in a summer tire I wanted it to be a good quality tire, so I picked
the Nokian zLine summer tire. This tire provides the sporty cool performance
that I was looking for. The Nokian zLine tire has a multi-layered structure
made up of different types of rubber compounds with the top layer consisting of
“the Nokian Intelligent UHP Silica “especially formulated to keep the feel of
the road even at high speeds. The middle layer consists of a nano silica
compound that makes steering more responsive. Finally, the bottom layer has a
rigid rubber compound to reduce rolling resistance and heat generation which
translates into lower fuel consumption and a longer lasting tire. Didn’t mean
to get so technical but I did do my homework before picking these summer tires.
you choose to invest in, it is a good idea to do your homework on the differencies
between the different types of tires. It is also important to realize that the
place where you live, what road and weather conditions you will be driving on,
what type of car you drive and what kind of driving you do all affect your tire
choice. Keep in mind that the tire is the only point of contact between the
road and your car.
As excavators can be both with wheels and with tracks, you always used the word wheeled to differentiate them. Wheeled are a bit more flexible as you can change the tires according to the terrain or the weather conditions.
Your tire choice can definitely impact the productivity of your wheeled excavator as the better grip and control you have, the better the performance will be. So when you get new excavator tires, use the tires technical manual to ensure that your tires are the most optimal ones.
Making wine belongs to agriculture commonly referred to as viniculture. You tend to use some of the same equipment frequently used in farming. When driving up and down along the vines you want to make sure that you have good control of your tractor, so you don’t damage the expensive vines.
Mechanical harvesting has become increasingly popular, as it is a fast way to pick the grapes upon harvesting. The mechanical harvesting uses a tractor with a special module for harvesting. Depending on where your grapes grow, the slope and the quality of the wine you want to produce. Hand picking is almost always better but tends to be more expensive. Within a vineyard some grapes can be handpicked and other harvested by machine depending on the quality of the end product. With hand picking you can select the best grapes to ensure a higher quality.
The main tires used in the wine growing process up to harvesting are agricultural tires and trailer tires. You want to make sure that your tires are of high quality when you deal with high value end products.
Farming has definitely moved on from back in the days when everything was pulled by animals or done by hand. Today’s farming is bigger scale and demand better equipment. There is a high need for speed and efficiency to ensure that they prices are kept at a competitive level. The better and more reliable equipment also demand better and more reliable tires that can work regardless of weather conditions and the terrain.
The main equipment still tends to be the tractor, which you can tow equipment behind; you can have a trailer and pull a slurry tanker. You might also need a telescopic loader, which is mainly used for moving around hay. There are also some other equipment you might need to manage your farm, but these will be the major ones used in todays farming.
For the tire choice you will have different agriculture tires for the tractor tires and agricultural trailer tires. If you also experience real winter weather you will most probably also need winter tractor tires. With good durable tires you will have a better yield from your farm with low downtime to better allow you to compete with your fresh produce.
With the nice weather arriving and with our upcoming trip to Yosemite, I wanted to make sure we had some well performing summer tires especially dedicated for our SUV. As we just bought a sport SUV, we wanted to make sure to equip it with good SUV summer tires. These tires differ from SUV winter tires being designed to endure the heat of the summer and occasional rain showers. We decided to go for the sporty Nokian zLine SUV tires.
The Nokian zLine SUV tires are designed to deal with summer weather,
which can include everything from very hot days to heavy rain. With the “Aramid
Sidewall technology” we will be well protected on rugged roads as the reinforced
sidewall technology gives tires an increased protection against impact and
cuts. Equipped with strong aramid fibers, the same ones that are used in the
aerospace industries, we will feel safer rolling down the freeway. This tire
also assures that we get the most out of our SUV as the steering is both quick
and responsive allowing ultimate driving pleasure when navigating even at high speeds.
We did at one point look into all-season tires but decided to go for a
dedicated summer tire.
all season tires like the Nokian Rotiiva HT would have been a possibility.
This tire would for sure provide a quiet
and safe ride. It also provides the possibility to handle some light off-road
situations, something we might need for our upcoming trip to Yosemite. It also
performs well on wet roads reducing the risk of aquaplaning. With its staggered
lateral grooves it can handle any weather as it removes water with ease and
maintains a good grip on the road, ensuring good handling of the SUV.
So, even though the all-season tires are not a bad option, dedicated
summer tires still perform better in the summer. That is because summer tires
are specifically designed to deal with warm weather and occasional wet roads.
The softer rubber compound in summer tires can handle the heat better and offer
more grip in both dry and wet conditions. I didn’t want to sacrifice any
steering, braking or handling, so I feel I made the right choice investing in
the Nokian zLine SUV tires. I am sure that on our upcoming trip to Yosemite I
will not be disappointed.
To increase safety, it’s very important to invest in good winter tires especially if you live in an area that faces heavy snow falls and real winter conditions. When I bought our first SUV, I first thought that there was no need for dedicated SUV winter tires. At that time, however, I didn’t realize that the tires are as important as the car that you drive. Even though winter tires actually are not mandatory in the state where I live, I thought I would be rather safe than sorry. So I invested in Nokian Nordman 5 SUV tires. If winters are extreme in the area you come from you also should consider dedicated SUV winter tires even if they are not mandatory. You should not wait until you get stuck in a snowstorm to start thinking of buying them. They make driving easier and safer on the icy, snowy and slushy conditions.
The Nokian Nordman 5 SUV tires use unique “Bear claw” technology, which
ensures safe handling during extreme conditions. It offers a well-balanced grip
especially for heavy vehicles to ensure better control and handling. It is
important to have winter tires installed before the winter arrives and the
temperatures drop below freezing. Even if you currently are using all
season tires you would still need to switch to dedicated winter tires once
the temperatures drop below freezing. This is because the rubber compound even
with all-season tires is not made for below freezing temperatures and therefore
not suitable for the cold winter weather.
Snow tires are
usually made of tread compounds that remain flexible and soft even in low
temperatures. This is different from all-season and summer tires that tend to
become stiffer in cold weather conditions. The Nokian Nordman 5 SUV tires also
feature a grooved tread pattern that provides optimal performance on the cold
roads. These grooves push heavy snow and water aside to prevent slush planing
and hydroplaning. This is a very important feature as slush planing is probably
more dangerous than hydroplaning and it occurs when the snow melts to slush on
the roads. The Nokian Nordman 5 SUV tires are available as studded or without
studs. Even when temperatures drop below freezing, your SUV winter tyres will
still be able to traverse the road with ease – with or without studs.
I am feeling really good about my decision to have equipped my SUV with
dedicated SUV winter tires.
When you live in a place with cold winters and lots of snow, the only real option is to invest in good winter tires. It really is the only safe option. Winter tires are especially formulated to withstand freezing temperatures and to continue rolling safely and comfortably on the snowy, icy and wet winter roads. All season tires are not suitable for real treacherous winter conditions. So, unless you live in a place with very mild conditions where temperatures stay above freezing, you should only use all-season tires in the spring, fall and summer. If you use these tires during the cold season when the weather conditions are wintry, you will be putting yourself and the passengers that you carry in your vehicle at risk.
Winter tires, on the other hand, should be used only during winter conditions. Using winter tires, either studded tires or non-studded winter tires, in other season is not recommended and in some states it is even against the law. So, as you see it’s important to use the correct tires for the particular season, especially in those parts of the country where the winters are cold, and summers are hot. It is better to be safe than sorry.
Since the winter tires are specifically designed to be used during the cold months, they are not good when the weather is hot. When you use them on warm summer roads, the specially formulated rubber does not perform adequately. Winter tires have specially formulated tread compound that does not harden when the temperature drops below freezing whereas summer tires actually harden and become unsafe with temperatures below freezing. A reason why winter tires should not be used in the summer and summer tires should not be used in the winter.
The softer tread compound that the winter
tires have wears out fast if used in the warm summer weather conditions. It really makes more sense to invest in good winter tires
when you live in an area with severe winters and vice versa good summer tires
in areas with real hot summers. Some people actually buy a second set of rims
so to make the change easier.
This summer we are planning a trip to Disneyland. Living in California we get to enjoy beautiful summers with at times quite high temperatures. With this in mind we are in the market for some good summer tires that will make our drive down highway 1 to Disneyland enjoyable and safe. The hot weather doesn’t just affect the driver but also the car. With the air-conditioning certainly on for the whole trip I am looking to find a tire which can offer some fuel economy. Traditionally summer tires are good for summer only. However living in California where the seasonal changes aren’t so huge, we are able to enjoy these tires all year around. They roll smoothly on dry and wet roads aloike and can resist extreme heat that this season is characterized by.
When I started looking for summer tires I looked into a tire with premium driving comfort while keeping in mind fuel efficiency. It probably doesn’t seem like a big deal what tire to buy but since this serves as our only tire all year around here in California, I wanted to invest in a premium tire that makes driving more enjoyable and safe. It’s quite nice cruising down Highway 1 in California and with the road being quite curvy it is good to have a tire that has good traction and really grips the road in turns. Summer tires have excellent traction due to their softer rubber. However, because of this, they cannot be used in freezing temperatures as the soft rubber will get hard. This of course in not of concern for us in southern California. However, if you are going to be driving in freezing temperatures you would need to look into a either a dedicated winter tire, all season tires or all-weather tire.
Living in California and with public transportation not being an option, we
drive a lot. So why not make the driving enjoyable. Getting good summer tires
here in California with good fuel efficiency is an
excellent idea. Such tires will last longer, meaning that you will be
able to use your investment for a prolonged period.
It is also important to remember that the summer tires you will buy may change
the dynamics of your car. With my new summer tires mounted on the car I am now
looking forward to our trip to Disneyland.
